The Florida Citrus Mutual in Lakeland is reporting no significant damage to the state’s citrus crop after the latest freeze to sweep through.
Temperatures must reach 28 degrees for four hours before oranges, grapefruit and tangerines are damaged.
“We feel like we dodged the proverbial bullet,” said Mutual VP/CEO Michael W. Sparks.
He expects to receive reports of spot damage, but no large scale problems.
With low temperatures forecast tonight not as low as last night, growers are feeling more confident of avoiding a significant loss this winter.
